Dr. Nisha Peshin has strong academic credentials. She is an MA, M.Phil (Education), B.Ed. and earned her doctoral degree with a Phd in Education.
She has 35+ years’ rich experience in areas related to school education. She started her career as a lecturer in a B.Ed. College. Later she worked in Mumbai with the Aga Khan Education Services (AKES-India), leading their School Improvement Programs in India, a subset of an international program launched in 7 countries. During this period, she attended conferences in several developing countries in Africa and Asia.
She also travelled to Colombo at the invitation of the Sri Lankan Govt., being a member of the Govt. Task Force on co-relation between education and employability in that country.
Since 1992, Dr. Nisha has been with the DAV College Managing Committee (DAVCMC), the largest NGO in school education in India. Over the years she has been in different roles, all related to school education. Presently she is in multiple roles as Director (Public Schools & Academics), Director (Centre for Academic Excellence-CAE) and Dean (DAV United Foundation-DAVUF).
In DAV, she played a pioneering role in designing and developing curriculum, instructional material, text books, multi-media kits and training modules for classes Nursery to VIII in DAV schools in India. She led the team which developed the text books, about 120 titles in all and since prescribed for exclusive use in 700+ DAV schools in India. On an average, each title sells about 80,000 copies per year and that makes it a mind-boggling run for all the titles taken together.
She conceived and led implementation of an ‘Early Education Development Program (EEDP)’, aimed at a holistic development for children in classes LKG to II of all DAV schools, which was a huge success. She complemented it with unique programs specially designed for the parents, making it a truly integrated effort.
In her current role, she is in direct administrative control of 300+ DAV schools across different states in India. Besides, it puts her in a leadership role in conceiving and implementing policy initiatives, including academic audits, teacher training programs and IT implementation for the entire DAV group.
She heads the DAV United Foundation, a non-profit association aimed at bringing the current students and alumni of DAV institutions together for the common good, through a series of social and cultural activities and a knowledge hub. She is the Editor of the DAV United Magazine, a bi-monthly publication having an impressive circulation of 150,000 per run.
In her long career, she has thus developed a humungous experience in school education and interacted with a large body of school administrators, principals, teachers, children and parents. As a result she has deep insights in matters related to school education and child learning. With that background, she is a repository of myriad anecdotes and is keen to share it with others through this book.
As for the personal life, Dr. Nisha Peshin was born in Mumbai in a traditional Kashmiri Pandit family. She is presently settled in Delhi with her husband, an ex-banker from the State Bank Group. She has two children, a daughter and a son, both married and settled abroad. The daughter is a Phd in pharmaceutical sciences and working in Montreal (Canada), whereas the son is pursuing a Phd in environmental sciences from Stanford University, California (USA).
